How to save an album

The virtual album can be saved as a single file containing all pictures along with the recorded sounds and settings (Resco Album — RAB) or it can be saved as a file with links to externally stored pictures and sound files (Resco Linked Album — RLA).

The RAB album format is suitable if you need to save disk space. The pictures can be stored in the album in a form optimized for the particular device and the source files can be deleted [use Settings...]. This way you can store a large number of albums on your device.

How to Distribute an Album

First of all you should to know, that you can view albums even when you use an unregistered version of Resco Photo Viewer. E.g. once you have created an album you can send it to your friend who will be able to view your photos even if using an unregistered version. The unregistered version of Resco Photo Viewer is available free of charge.

How to distribute an album

Select File/Send/Album via IrDA… The album will be saved into the storage and immediately sent via the Infraport to another device.

Synchronize albums with desktop

To keep your Photo Viewer files (albums, photos, movies, attached sound files) synchronized with your desktop computer do the following:

That's it, your files are now synchronized and you'll always have the current version of your album or presentation.

Business Presentations

SlideShow Presentation

The Resco Photo Viewer can be used as a special presentation tool. Sound/text/graphic notes can be attached to each slide in a show. Moreover, you can set the slide duration and choose a transition effect.

A sound can be played immediately after the slide is displayed. Alternatively you can specify one sound/music/voice [wav, mp3] file for the entire presentation. (E.g. you can attach a sound of an ocean surf when presenting a vacation slideshow). Please go to Slide Properties, for more information. To get a professional look of your presentation, you can take advantage of numerous transition effects between individual slides.

How to import a PowerPoint presentation

Desktop side

  1. run Microsoft PowerPoint
  2. open your presentation
  3. go to 'Open | Save As' menu
  4. in section 'save as type' select 'JPEG filter'
  5. enter the presentation name
  6. after you complete these steps you should find your PocketPC-ready presentation in the folder bearing the name you entered in the previous step

PocketPC side

  1. copy the folder (see above) from the desktop to your PocketPC device
  2. follow the steps described in the How to create album section

Screen Capture

One of the useful accessories of the Resco Photo Viewer is the screen capture. This built-in utility allows you to capture the screen content and store it in one of the following formats: JPG, PNG or BMP.

If you want to store the current screen content use the Now button. If you wish to first open an external application and then store its content, use the After 10s button.

If you wish to save the captured image to the default folder check the button Save automatically. If you wish to specify other folder leave this option unchecked and the application will ask you for the new folder and file name. Once the folder is selected it is remembered and used as a default folder for the next capture.

If you use this utility frequently it could be convenient to associate it with one of the hardware buttons. Select Start>Settings>Personal>Buttons choose the button to associate and in the Button assignment control select: “Screen Capture”.

Image Loading & Quality Settings

To achieve optimal results you should know a little about operating/storage memory. The device's memory space is divided into operating memory (used by the CPU to process instructions) and storage memory (used as a storage space for data). Moreover it is possible to extend the memory space by using storage cards, however, these can only increase the storage capacity (not the operating memory).
When processing large images (taken by a digital camera...) the demand for operating memory is quite high (e.g. a 1024x1024 RGB photo requires at least 3MB of operating memory). To get the most out of the device capabilities use the settings bellow.

Load big pictures

Quality Optimizations

Use Dithering — some older device models (such as iPAQ, Jornada) can only display a limited number of colors (4096). Use this option to obtain a higher image/photo quality.

Use best quality shrink — displays higher quality pictures and thumbnails, however, it can cause the application to slow down when viewing larger images. This option is priceless especially when viewing faxes.

Cache Settings

Photo Viewer generates RAlbum.ra_ files in each folder with photo(s). This cache file can contain the notes, thumbnails, rotation, zoom and some settings.

Choose the maximal file size reserved for the cache file.

Use cache file...

If you wish to save the space and you do not need to remember the thumbnails and other settings uncheck this box.

Save zoom and rotation

Check this box if you wish to save the image rotation and zoom for all the images. The next time you will open the folder, images will have the same rotation and zoom.

Save thumbnails if they load longer then

This option allows you to cache the thumbnails only for large images. Specify the loading time limit for the large images.
